That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet. Or would it? Perhaps when Shakespeare wrote this line, he was not considering brand names!
Brand names create an identity that people can associate with, they create perceptions and they let customers know what to expect. There is a lot of power in them.
So, I am pleased to announce our new brand name:
Why the change?
Funnily enough, I couldn’t put my finger on it at first. My intuition was telling me that The Oneness Movement no longer felt right. It was too long and too complex to convey my intentions.
My mission is to bring holistic health and conscious wellbeing into the mainstream and make it part of our everyday lives. To me, this was about Oneness, with our Selves, our community, and the universe, and so I wanted to start a Movement. So the name seemed logical.
However, reflecting on the past year and the conversations I've had with customers, I found that The Oneness Movement needed too much explanation. This meant it was not achieving its goal of being accessible mainstream. It also lacked the feeling of fun and excitement I want to bring to the journey of personal transformation.
holistify was born
The more I sat with it, the more I realised at change was needed. After-all, we are developing a brand new platform so why not re-brand with a new name? So, I started playing around with different ideas and brainstorming with my partner.
I wanted a word that was commonly known, I wanted it to sound mystical yet practical, and to reflecting the evolution of this industry into the digital age. Plus, I wanted people to know what we are about without the barrier of explanation.
Some people may think “holistic” is overused, but I think that it has now reached a level of commonality and understanding in the mainstream. It is also all-encompassing as to not exclude any disciplines, but rather celebrate the whole spectrum.
But more than that, it unites us as an industry – Holism means that nothing can be fully understood unless one sees the whole system of which it is part; that is the whole is always more than the sum of its parts. To me, together we are stronger – community, collaboration and connection will raise up this industry with the credibility we deserve.
Part of this credibility is technology, and our new platform when launched, will provide holistic businesses with the digital tools they need to show case their business and sell their services. The technology aspect made me think of Spotify – bring digital music to the masses, and Shopify – bringing ability to create online retail to many businesses…
And thus, holistify was born!
And the Verdict?
Well, the experts seem to be on our side. Studies indicate that businesses perform better when they have short, simple names instead of hard-to-process names. We have achieved this – its already easier to type the new email address – by the way, you can reach us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
In Christopher Johnson’s book Microstyle: The Art of Writing Little, he discusses how different words can “feel” to a customer, depending on the rhythmic contrast of the word. I find holistify sounds lighter and softer, compared to the heavier and harder feel of The Oneness Movement. To me, this softer feel aligns better to caring nature of our industry.
But the jury is still out! Personally, I would love to hear your feedback on the new name.
